Haiti

It has been two weeks since the devastating earthquake in Haiti.  I did not contemplate blogging about this subject until today when I read Anne-Christine D’Adesky’s story on Pulse Wire.  As is typical of Pulse Wire coverage, this is an important piece  that I recommend everyone read.

My Metanoia

Metanoia is a Greek word that translates to ‘change of mind’.  In the dictionary, the definition is ‘a profound, usually spiritual, transformation’.  I have been experiencing a metanoia over the past year as I face the challenges of unemployment.  I have been forced to take a new look at my career, my finances, and my personal priorities.  The shifts in my thinking have been both exhilarating and liberating, and that surprises me as much as anyone.

Our First Post

Welcome to the New Hampshire Women’s Leadership Institute President’s blog. I am new to the activity of blogging and look forward to this opportunity to discuss what is taking place at the Institute, how things are shaping up for our flagship event, the New Hampshire Women’s Leadership Summit, and issues that are important to women in New Hampshire and around the globe.

The theme of this year’s Summit is Giving Voice to Vision. For me, giving voice to vision is in part about dreaming big and then acting upon that dream. When I dream big, I dream about transforming the culture of corporate America so that female professionals never experiences any type of discrimination, and that the feminine way is seen to be as valid and effective as the masculine way. When I am being more practical, giving voice to vision is about becoming a better business woman by embracing my own vision for my career and professional growth. It is about acknowledging and appreciating that women and men are different, and women, bringing a different set of skills to their work and businesses, are essential for a business’s growth and success.
